Jean Castex delivered a new speech on Monday, December 27, 2021, just ten days after his previous speech, to unveil new measures against the progression of coronavirus and the Omicron variant in France. Accompanied by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, he announced new measures, while the number of new cases recorded daily is breaking records.
Among the government’s announcements, the deadline for the 3rd dose of the Covid vaccine will be reduced to three months from this Tuesday, December 28. Large gatherings are limited to 2,000 people indoors and 5,000 outdoors. Standing concerts are prohibited, and the consumption of alcohol while standing is also prohibited in bars and cafes. Food consumption is prohibited in public places such as theaters, cinemas and sports facilities. The mask obligation will be extended and “better respected”.
Announcements for December 31st and the start of the January school year
For December 31, Jean Castex reissued the recommendations he had already formulated ten days previously: limit major holidays, air, test … The greeting ceremonies planned for January are canceled. Jean Castex formalized that there would, however, be no curfew for the night of New Year’s Eve, but announced a new Defense Council on January 5.
For the start of the January school year, and for at least three weeks, teleworking will become compulsory in all companies and for all employees at the rate of 3 days a week and if possible 4 days. There will be no postponement of the start of the school year, the closure of schools remaining possible, but “as a last resort”. Jean Castex had already spoken on December 17, announcing in particular the creation of a vaccination pass, which should replace the health pass in early 2022. To go to restaurants, places of culture, or leisure, a negative test does not will suffice more: it will inevitably be necessary to have been vaccinated (or cured of the Covid) and to have received a booster dose. The deadline for the recall has also been reduced. It increased to 4 months after the second dose of the vaccine instead of 5 months previously. One week before Christmas Eve and two from New Year’s Eve, the Prime Minister also asked town halls to give up concerts and fireworks on the evening of December 31, during which alcohol consumption on public roads will be prohibited.
