Luleja’s Finnish forward Juhani Tyrväinen got angry in the Swedish league playoff match against Växjö.
The quarterfinals are currently underway in the Swedish hockey league SHL. Kalle Kossilan and Emil Larmin represented by Växjö met in Saturday night’s playoff match Juhani Tyrväinen and Olli Nikupeterin represented by Lulea. The reigning SHL champion Växjö won the match 2–1.
The Finnish striker Juhani Tyrväinen of the away team Luulaja attracted the most attention in the match. The incident was covered in the news, among other things Aftonbladet and SVT.
Tyrväinen lost his nerve at the end of the third period, when Växjön Marcus Sylvegaard tackled the Finn so badly that it hurt. Aftonbladet says that Sylvegård also hit Tyrvää on the wrist with a stick.
After this, Tyrväinen lost his temper and, according to the Swedish media, threw both his gloves at the referee of the match. At the same time, he reportedly shouted at the judge. On the way to the dressing room, Tyrväinen ironically gave the head referees a thumbs up To Richard Magnusson and For Johan Magnusson.
The 33-year-old Finnish striker received a match penalty for his rage.
Defender of Lulea Erik Gustafsson defended his Finnish teammate in an interview.
– Of course, it was particularly rude (from Tyrväin). In the game, the emotions are on the surface, and we did not get the upper hand during the whole game. (The opponent) hit him on the wrist and after this we should restrain ourselves. It puts us in a bad position, Gustafsson told TV4.
After the match, Tyrväinen went to knock on the door of the jury’s dressing room, but they did not open the door, Swedish media reported.
– I would have liked to apologize because what I did was not ok, Tyrväinen commented.
The 33-year-old Tyrväinen is the world champion from Leijoni’s spring 2019 gold team.
In the SM league, he has represented Jokeris, Pelicans and HIFK. He is already playing in his fifth season in Lulea. This season, Tyrväinen scored 8+16 points in 48 regular season matches. In the playoffs, he has already scored three goals in five matches.
Växjö’s Finnish goalkeeper Emil Larmi saved 18 of 19 pucks in the win. Växjö took the second consecutive victory in the quarterfinals against Lulea and thus leads the series 2–0.
Rögle leads Färjestad 2–0, Leksand Frölunda 1–0 and Skellefteå Linköping 1–0.
