The Lion King 2: Trailer gives Scar a name and makes Mufasa an orphan

As the new trailer shows, Mufasa is not only the story of Simba’s eponymous father, but also that of Scar. However, the future villain does not yet bear his scar as a name as a lion cub, but is called Taka and is a lion princeConversely, the video reveals the small Mufasa as an outsider and orphanwhich inevitably raises the question of how they later come to have their roles reversed.

The photorealistically animated remake of The Lion King became the most successful of all Disney remakes in 2019. This is hardly surprising given the original’s leading position among Disney animated films. The new interpretation of Hamlet with lions did not shy away from haunting scenes. Mufasa’s death in The Lion King by his brother Scar is one of the most traumatic Disney scenes ever because it seriously shows and processes the loss of his father for Simba and the young audience.

That the sequel Scar and Mufasa now best friends promises to reopen this wound. The trick of awakening feelings for the relationship between two future rivals is likely to make the murder doubly painful. But how exactly the “brothers” became sworn enemies is something we will only find out in four months
