The life of the Baader-Meinhof terrorist – captured after 30 years on the run

The now 65-year-old terrorist Daniela Klette, a member of the infamous Baader-Meinhof League, has arrested by police in Berlin – after 30 years underground.
In silence, she allegedly lived a double life under a false identity, German reports
World.

For over 20 years, she must have lived on the fifth floor in the district of Kreutzberg, according to information given to the newspaper. Although she handed out cookies at Christmas and always greeted neighbors politely, Klette maintained only superficial contacts with the community.

She allegedly called herself ‘Claudia’, used an Italian passport and made a living by offering private math lessons. Neighbors tell the newspaper that she made a nice and tidy impression – they had no idea that she was the notorious terrorist Daniela Klette, involved in over thirty murders and several bombings.

Pictures on Facebook

A young neighbor tells the newspaper that she always saw Klette, with her gray hair in a ponytail, alone with her large dog and bicycle. Although Klette herself always seemed friendly, she was rarely in the company of anyone.

– It doesn’t matter what someone did 30 years ago. The woman was withdrawn and nice, says another neighbor Berlin Zeitung.

Klette also has, according to several German media, had a profile on Facebook where she posted pictures of herself. She has also been part of a Brazilian dance group that also received some media attention over the years. In the German media, many have reacted to the fact that she seems to have lived reasonably openly, did not seem to be hiding online and even posted pictures of herself on social media.

Seemed relieved

She is said to have been served with several arrest warrants for various robberies over the years. The final tip that led to the arrest reportedly came from the public, according to Berlin Zeitung.

At the time of the arrest on Monday, Klette was alone in the apartment and did not resist. The police were finally able to identify her with the help of fingerprints and found, among other things, ammunition in the home. According to the channel NTV she must have seemed “relieved” when she was arrested.

The 65-year-old woman is now in custody in Lower Saxony and is now being asked by authorities to assist the investigators in the investigations surrounding her accomplices Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg. Staub and Garweg were also members of the Baader-Meinhof League and are still wanted intensively by German authorities.
