The L-tops call for a boycott of Marabou.
At the same time, the Liberals in Landskrona distribute the chocolate to people in town.
– We had bought a lot of chocolate from Marabou. So we were between the decision to throw it away or to distribute it, says municipal board chairman Torkild Strandberg.
The L-tops’ criticism of companies and consumers who continue to use Mondelez products has this week been hailed in the media and on social media.
At the same time, companies that have chosen to boycott the disputed food giant are applauded.
During Friday, party secretary and Member of Parliament Gulan Avci went out and praised amusement parks such as Gröna Lund and Kolmården.
“Decent companies should not support Putin’s war machine against Ukraine. Well done!” she wrote on Twitter.
The day before, the party’s foreign policy spokesman, Joar Forssell, made a statement against the king and the royal house.
In a letter of demand, he called for an end to branding Mondelez and its products – including Marabou and O’boy – as royal court suppliers.
– Dead children simply don’t drink O’boy. That is what the issue is about, he told Aftonbladet on Thursday.
The reason is that Mondelez finances Russia’s war chest, according to the L top.
Distributed leaflets and Marabou
– How the king, who is a role model for many, and the court, which is such a strong brand, can stand behind these products. It is completely unacceptable.
On the same day that the top politician’s finger was pointed at the royal house, local representatives of their own party stood in Landskrona and distributed leaflets – and pieces of Marabou.
– We had bought a lot of chocolate from Marabou. So we were between the decision to throw it away or to distribute it, says Torkild Strandberg, who is the chairman of the municipal board in Landskrona.
Landskrona residents reacted
Torkild Strandberg says that the chocolate was distributed in connection with a campaign.
What was the campaign about?
– I actually don’t remember that. It was a local message. It was about Landskrona’s development in terms of school results, crime and other things.
Several Landskrona residents are said to have reacted to the choice of chocolate brand.
– We explained that we had bought the chocolate before the discussion about boycott was relevant. But of course we stand behind the boycott. What Marabou is doing is completely reprehensible, he says.
Will the chocolate continue to be distributed during future local campaigns?
– No, the chocolate ran out on Thursday. In the future, we will of course buy another chocolate, says Torkild Strandberg.
