“As a result of the discussions within Renew Europe and Alde, the chair of the Renew Europe group will not invite – for the time being – the Liberal leadership to the Renew Europe group’s events,” writes RE on Twitter.
RE further writes that it welcomes the liberal umbrella organization Alde’s decision at the meeting in Brussels on Thursday to send a fact-gathering working group to Stockholm in the near future to assess the relationship between the four parties in the right-wing coalition.
May remain in the party group
The Liberals are part of the EU Parliament’s liberal party group Renew Europe (RE), whose French group leader Stéphane Séjourné has recently criticized the Liberals cooperating with the Sweden Democrats through the so-called Tidö Agreement.
Discussions have been going on within RE whether the Liberals and the party’s member of the EU Parliament Karin Karlsbro should be excluded from the group. On Wednesday, the announcement came that Karlsbro will be allowed to remain in RE.
