“As a result of the discussions within Renew Europe and Alde, the chair of the Renew Europe group will not – at this time – invite the Liberal leadership to Renew Europe group events,” writes RE on Twitter.
RE further writes that it welcomes the liberal umbrella organization Alde’s decision at the meeting in Brussels on Thursday to send a fact-gathering working group to Stockholm in the near future to assess the relationship between the four parties in the right-wing coalition.
The Liberals are part of the EU Parliament’s liberal party group Renew Europe (RE), whose French group leader Stéphane Séjourné has recently criticized the Liberals cooperating with the Sweden Democrats through the so-called Tidö Agreement.
Discussions have been going on within RE whether the Liberals and the party’s member of the EU Parliament Karin Karlsbro should be excluded from the group. On Wednesday, the announcement came that Karlsbro will be allowed to remain in RE.
