In Congo-Brazzaville, the government set Thursday, in the Council of Ministers, the date of the legislative and local elections for July 10, 2022. The legislative elections are a two-round ballot. But, the date of the second round remains to be determined. Already, the majority and the main opposition party intend to take part in these elections, while part of the opposition plans to boycott them.

Some political parties were already in negotiations even before the official announcement of the date of the polls. The first formation of the majority, the Congolese Labor Party (PCT) of President Denis Sassou Nguesso has already invested most of its candidates. The PCT has 92 deputies out of 151 in the outgoing assembly.
The only opposition party with a parliamentary group in the lower house of parliament, thePan African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) will also be there. Although undermined by dissension internal since the disappearance of its leader Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas – disappearance which occurred the day after the presidential election of 2021 – the Union of Humanist Democrats (UDH-Yuki) intends to take part.
Part of the opposition ready to boycott
This is not the case for other political formations such as the Alliance for the Republic and Democracy of the opponent Mathias Dzon, and the Congolese Opposition Federation of Clément Miérassa. These two platforms which believe that these elections are played in advance are in favor of the boycott.
