For five days, over 200 leftists have debated and argued about their new party program.
– We have a new party program today that is updated, modernized and is a strong platform for us in the EU elections, says Dadgostar.
In the new party programme, several classic left-wing formulations have disappeared. Among other things, the wording that capitalism should be abolished and that banks should be nationalized that had previously been included.
In the new program it is instead stated that the banking system is to be democratised.
Some criticism has arisen internally after the changes in the party programme. Many did not recognize themselves and wanted clearer writing about socialism and capitalism. But Dadgostar does not see that the changes make the party less socialist.
– We are Sweden’s left-wing party and we want to improve people’s everyday life, increase suitability and ensure that we get a climate transition that is fair and good, says Dadgostar (V).
Not contrary to NATO
In the new program, the party also does not categorically say no to NATO and Swedish arms exports – something that the Left Party has done in the past.
The party program also highlights a new approach to the EU.
– We have made some major changes, such as the fact that we now have a program that says how we want to change the EU and does not highlight leaving the EU, says Jonas Sjöstedt, the party’s first name before the EU elections.
The goal: Place in S’s government
The purpose of the changes is to make it easier for the Left Party to take a seat in a government led by the Social Democrats, according to SVT’s domestic policy commentator Elisabeth Marmorstein.
– In that equation, it is important to become bigger than the Center Party and the Green Party, she says in an analysis.
