The left creates surprise, the figures

The left creates surprise the figures

The results of the second round of the legislative elections are in, what is the score of the union of the left this Sunday, July 7?

The union of the left created a surprise during the second round of the legislative elections. Already in the lead in the first estimates around 8 p.m., the New Popular Front was credited by the end of the evening with 177 to 192 seats in the National Assembly, clearly ahead of Ensemble (152 to 158 seats) and the RN, favorite in the polls and relegated to third place with 138 to 145 seats according to Ifop.

The New Popular Front has clearly managed to create a surprise by taking advantage of the withdrawals and the blockade to the National Rally, since the party chaired by Jordan Bardella came out on top in the second round, while the NFP supported its second place in the election with 27.99% of the votes, or nearly 9 million votes, in the first round of early legislative elections held on Sunday, June 30.

Figures of the new NFP alliance elected

Which NFP candidates are elected? Some big names like Mathilde Panot, Manuel Bompard and Olivier Faure were elected in the first round in their respective constituencies, joined this Sunday by François Hollande, Louis Boyard and Alexis Corbière.

While his partner Raquel Garrido, third in the fifth constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis last Sunday, withdrew to play into the hands of the New Popular Front, Alexis Corbière, also a victim of the “Mélenchonist purge” during the campaign for these legislative elections, came out on top in the seventh constituency of 93. The outgoing MP won just over 40% of the vote in the first round and will face Sabrina Ali-Benali in the second round, a candidate nominated by…La France Insoumise who won 36.3% of the vote.

Despite the union of the left, decreed on June 10 to face the National Rally during these early legislative elections, tensions have marred the campaign of the New Popular Front. It is often around the person of Jean-Luc Mélenchon that the different representatives of the NFP, from France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, Europe Écologie Les Verts and the French Communist Party, have had differences, especially when the founder of LFI announced that he would be the party’s candidate for the post of Prime Minister. Quarrels that could well continue after these legislative elections and possibly weaken the new left-wing alliance.
