Hardly anyone in Baldur’s Gate 3 plays Githyanki. The people are by far the most powerful in the game – at least that’s what many fans think.
In Baldur’s Gate 3 you have countless options to customize your character. You choose from many classes and many races. A while ago, the developers revealed that the Githyanki are the least popular of all races.
Why are Githyanki unpopular? The reason why hardly anyone likes to play Githyanki is probably mainly due to their appearance. The ugly nose (or “aerodynamic”, as Lae’zel calls it) is a direct reason for many people not to play the people at all. While the females come across as pretty, hardly anyone manages to create an attractive male Githyanki.
And that’s a shame since Githyanki have some of the most powerful abilities in the game.

What makes Githyanki so strong? This is discussed actively in the Reddit post “Why are Githyanki so massively op?” The over 8,700 upvotes make it clear that the thread creator is not alone with his opinion.

There are also a number of weapons and equipment that are only fully effective when wielded by a Githyanki. This can be circumvented with some spells, but it’s nice to get it out of the box as a bonus.
This variety of movement abilities alone makes Githyanki a very attractive race from a purely gameplay perspective. So if you are considering a higher difficulty run, you may want to consider creating a Githyanki or a Githyanki. It might be worth it.
