Some of the leading developers who made The Division are now working on a new shooter for Steam and consoles.
What game is it? Exoborne is an extraction shooter that is coming to Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. A special feature of the game are apocalyptic forces of nature that sweep across the map during the rounds.
In previous trailers, we have mainly seen tornadoes that hurl players and vehicles through the air. So you don’t just have to watch out for enemy players or aggressive NPCs when playing, but also keep an eye on your surroundings. Otherwise, you might suddenly find yourself in the eye of a tornado or get struck by lightning when shooting if you weren’t paying attention while looting.
In addition to the forces of nature, Exoborne offers you various tools to help you in battle. These include a kind of zipline that you can use to pull yourself onto roofs, vehicles or a parachute – in case the tornado was faster than you thought.
You can also create Exo-Rigs that give your soldier that extra edge. For example, you can use an Exo-Rig to perform a powerful jump attack that creates a shockwave when you land, or create a kind of shield that temporarily protects you from frontal fire.

From the Dark Zone into the Storm
Who is behind Exoborne? The extraction shooter is being developed by the Swedish studio Sharkmob AB, which also developed the battle royale shooter “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt”.
One of the founders of Sharkmob is Martin Hultberg. He is also the narrative director for Exoborne. In the past, however, Hultberg also worked for Massive Entertainment and was IP Director for The Division.
Hultberg will be accompanied by Petter Mannerfelt, who was game director on The Division. For Exoborne, Mannerfelt will take on the role of creative director.
Does the experience from The Division help with Exoborne? Absolutely. At first glance, they are of course two completely different games. The Division is a loot shooter, Exoborne is an extraction shooter.
With the Dark Zone, The Division had something of a forerunner of today’s extraction shooters: you go into a closed area, collect loot and then leave again. Both NPCs and other players can fight you for your loot. If you die in the Dark Zone before you have extracted your loot, you go home empty-handed.
Casual rounds instead of hardcore grind
How does Exoborne want to stand out? The developers repeatedly emphasize that they want to create an extraction shooter that is also aimed at casual players and does not scare off new players. This is to be achieved, among other things, by shorter rounds that last a maximum of 20-30 seconds.
In addition, there will be no wipes or anything similar. Instead, a matchmaking system could be introduced that will protect you from battles with shooter pros or Tarkov veterans.
Our colleague Philipp Elsner from GameStar has already been able to play Exoborne and summarized his impressions of the extraction shooter from Sharkmob in the video. The new shooter “Exoborne” from the makers of The Division shows us for the first time whether it has what it takes to be a tornado hit
