The leader of Belarus Lukashenko threatened Western companies with nationalization

According to Lukashenko, “Lithuanian, Finnish and other such” companies have come to Belarus only to flee the country.

Autocratic leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has reached the point where Western companies still operating in the country are hard hit. When looking at the building, Lukašenka answered a question from the reporter of the country’s own news channel Pul Pervogo that he no longer wants to see “Lithuanian, Finnish and other such” companies.

Lukashenka said that he knows that these only come to Belarus to then abandon their activities and leave the country.

He did not mention the companies by name, but said he heard that some Finnish and Lithuanian companies have already left.

Lukashenko: They will be nationalized

The leader of Belarus threatened that foreign companies will not succeed in selling their businesses, but they will be nationalized.

Lukashenko’s views have been reported on Ria Novosti and the Lenta website. He was the first to tell about it in Finland Kauppalehti (you switch to another service).

The most famous of the Finnish companies operating in Belarus is the Eisalme brewing group Olvi, which has a subsidiary in the country, Lidskoe Pivo. Olvi announced in August that it plans to sell its holdings in Belarus, probably within a year.

Sanctions have been imposed on Belarus

Belarus, Ukraine’s border neighbor, has supported Russia’s attack on Ukraine and blatantly violated human rights in the country.

Therefore, the Council of Europe has set sanctions against it (you switch to another service)which prevent, among other things, the export of weapons and telecommunications technology to the country.

The sanctions also regulate money circulation and prohibit the import of oil from Belarus. In addition, travel restrictions have been imposed on persons responsible for human rights violations and those who financially support Lukashenko’s administration.
