Large amounts of snow fell in large parts of the country during the weekend and at the beginning of the week. In Stockholm, the intense snow cover paralyzed the metropolis and the Swedish Transport Administration and the police urged residents to work at home.
But what really happens if you can’t get to work? Are you still entitled to salary? In an interview with TV4, the labor law lawyer at Almega explains, Mia Fransson out what applies during difficult times in blizzards.
You don’t get paid if you’re not at the workplace
– It is difficult for everyone in these times with snowstorms and other things, but according to the regulations that exist, it is the employee who has to get to the workplace so that you can start work at the appointed time, says Mia Fransson and continues:
– This means that you don’t get paid if you’re not at the workplace, even if the reason is that public transport doesn’t work or there’s a snowstorm, because the main rule is that pay is only paid when you’ve actually done work.
Keep good foresight
Mia Fransson speaks the channel that it is good to have a good dialogue with your boss, and that boss and employer focus on problem solving.
It is also important to have good foresight when you know that the weather can affect your work – and that you therefore start your journey to work in good time.
