The latest YouTube update on Android introduces a new video mini-reader. Simpler and more discreet, it brings some very practical functions for better viewing on small screen.
YouTube constantly modifies the design of its application according to platforms and screen sizes, in order to offer the most pleasant navigation as possible. In 2024, the platform had attempted a new format for its mini-reader in the Android version, but it was far from being unanimous. Indeed, many users reproached him for taking up too much space on the screen, making him frustrating in use. Google had finally backtracked and put the old back. The company announced the deployment of the new design of the mini-reader, in version 20.19.37 of YouTube on Android. This is more refined and flexible, while welcoming some interesting functions.

Youtube on Android: a mini video reader reviewed and improved
Previously, when the video player was miniature, so as to allow the navigation on the platform while continuing to read the video, a control bar was displayed at the bottom of the latter, with the reading/pauses and a rear back/jump buttons of 10 seconds. It has simply been deleted. Instead, YouTube opts for a more minimalist interface, with only two buttons (reading/break and closing) superimposed on the video, which makes the reader more discreet. Once the video is finished, a rehearsal button allows you to see it again.
It is also possible to hide the reader on one side of the screen, right or left depending on what you prefer, in order to release space while continuing to visualize the content in progress. A handle then allows it to be reapted quickly. Another good point: the video automatically sets out when the reader is hidden, and resumes as soon as it is visible again. Finally, in theory, because according to the first returns of 9TO5GOOGLEthe function is not yet perfectly to the point, because the video continues even masked, but Google should quickly solve this problem.
The deployment of this new mini-reader is underway on Android-at the editorial staff, we do not yet benefit from it. No date has yet been announced for iOS.
