Late leader of the mercenary army Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin received a statue in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, on Tuesday. Prigozhin is pictured holding a walkie-talkie and wearing a bulletproof vest.
Prigozhin is accompanied by his second-in-command Dmitry Utkincarrying a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
President of the Central African Republic Faust’s Archange Touadera called Wagner troops into the country in 2018 to help government forces fight the rebels. In return, shares in gold and diamond mines were offered.
According to the Facebook pages of the Central African Police, the statue is part of the bilateral cooperation program between Central Africa and Russia.
Prigozhin and Utkin died last August in a plane crash in Russia just two months after the Wagner forces had ended their rebellion against the Russian regime.
