Stars like no other
Contrary to what their name suggests, shooting stars have nothing to do with the stars that we admire in the night sky. Indeed, the latter are balls of molten gas while shooting stars are dust that crosses the atmosphere.
This name comes from the appearance of shooting stars which strongly resemble stars falling from the sky. This is obviously only an illusion since the stars are much further away in space than the cosmic dust whose path our planet crosses.
