In our The Last Of Us Part I review content, we take a look at the innovations of the game and make comparisons with the Remastered version.
After Last of Us 2, which divided the game lovers into two, we are returning to the first game that everyone embraced and cherished. I’ll touch on the main dynamics of the game a little bit, but I won’t go into too much detail as this is a story we know and have seen before. My main goal is to convey to you what the game offers as new. As a matter of fact, this is a remake game and it has been prepared by staying true to its essence as much as possible. Therefore, if you want to take a deeper look at the game, you can also check out our Last of Us review content.
The Last of Us Part I review / Graphics Comparison
Although The Last of Us Part I was not criticized as a game, it also brought some controversy after the Remake announcement. This situation needs to be clarified because many players are quite confused on this issue.
We can say that The Last of Us Part I is the Remake version of the first game and a visually enhanced, corrected and modified version. In terms of story, of course, we encounter the same game. On the other hand, the PC version should also be mentioned. One of the biggest reasons why this game is a Remake is that it will also have a PC version.
As you know, Sony has been bringing Playstation games to PC with a delay lately. It would be a shame if this game, which was released in 2013 or later remastered, was presented to PC users who have never played it. Because Last of Us has an excellent story, presentation and characters. The first version of this game is out of date, so it is necessary to examine the purpose of this version and criticize it accordingly. So if you’ve played Last of Us or Last of Us Remastered versions recently, this game may not mean anything to you. But if you have never played this game, if you only have a PC, PS5, or if you have only finished the 2013 version like me, I can say that a great nostalgia awaits you.
The Last of Us story
Although the Last of Us story is a game with a post-apocalyptic scenario, it actually contains a drama about human relations. This is one of the reasons why the game is so popular. It doesn’t matter how or how the virus spread in this story. It hits us from the very first minutes that it will tell it in a striking way compared to a classic zombie story. The spreading virus, ideologies, human cruelty and, more importantly, character development are at the center of this story. In short, when things start to go bad, how civilized people eat each other slaps us in the face.
In the game, we see that two characters named Joel and Ellie are placed in the center. Of course, all of the dozens of characters included in the story manage to leave a great mark in this adventure. One of the most special aspects of Last of US is that it is a journey story. It is a journey where we should not look back, and where good or bad decisions we make will weigh on us.
The game achieves this so well that despite all these years, when I played it again, I felt that weight on my shoulders. Especially after the 2nd game, this story makes much more sense. It presents a story that you know the outcome of but would want to make the same decisions if you set out on that road. Once again, you witness the psychology of the characters and how the course of events is processed in stitches. Believe me, I have never played Last of Us and I would like to erase this adventure from my memory and play with those feelings again. If a story I know sounds so striking, I can say that I am already curious about the face of actors who have never experienced it before.
What has changed in the remake version?
On the gameplay side, Naughty Dog has made some changes. First of all, it was already stated that the game’s MoCap works were overhauled and new animations were added. You can see this very clearly in the character expressions. Moreover, on the gameplay side, this animation richness makes itself felt. So the entire time I played, I never thought this game was an old game. Moreover, when I open the Remastered version for comparison, you can see the difference more clearly.
Apart from the animations, the main change is in the world of the game. The firm reconsidered all the spaces, including the objects in the playground, especially the depth of field. So let’s say you entered a closed place in the old version. When you look at the same place in the new game, you see new objects, details and differences. In this way, the world of the game has become richer and looks really nice.
The spaces have become much more lively with reflections and light plays. Added and changed building skins, you get that abandoned feeling much better in this game. They did not neglect to change even an ordinary building you pass by. In short, the essence of the game has been preserved, but it has been adapted to the present day with the additions. Since The Last of Us Part II was designed this way from the very beginning, maybe it is not as good as it, but I can say that if the first game was released in this form, no one would have a visual objection.
The same goes for the gameplay part. In addition to the more sedate animation structure, there are also minor changes in the combat and conflict sections. The game has become more fluid. Moreover, with the changing menu design, it has gained a modern look. The selection of items, the updates made or the crafting system are very comfortable to use and do not grin at all.
One of my favorite points of The Last of Us Part I, where the multi modes were removed, was the accessibility options. naughty Dog here allows you to customize the game according to many eye health problems, from color blindness to many eye health problems. Even better, it did the same thing for the game’s difficulty adjustment. In addition to the normal difficulty options, you can make a much more detailed customization in the accessibility options.
Finally, I need to mention the DualSense support and the Turkish dubbing option. All the features of the DualSense controller are used in the game. Thanks to the Haptic Feedback feature, you can feel even the slightest vibration in your palms. The Adaptive Trigger feature, on the other hand, puts its beautiful structure at our fingertips in parts such as using a weapon, drawing a bow or using a health pack. The game has Turkish dubbing, subtitles and menu selections. As you may remember, there was no dubbing in the main game and it was added specifically to this game, allowing us to experience the Last of Us story entirely in Turkish. I’m not very Turkish dubbing crazy. I started the game with subtitles, but I didn’t feel the need to turn off the dubbing afterwards when I opened it to try it to mention it in the review. The voice actors performed very well and in such an emotionally charged play, they managed to convey all those emotions.
As a result, considering the PC version, you feel that this change is necessary, and we can say that the sequel will probably be seen after the PC version, which will be released in the spring. For those who have recently played the first game or already bought the Remastered version, I can say that I fully agree with the criticism of the price. If you have played the game recently, you can wait for the discount period to play this renewed version. The Last of Us Part I is a production that should not be missed by those who have not experienced this adventure so far.
