It’s an announcement that we were waiting for and that we had a few hours too great. Naughty Dog is back in force this year with the arrival of a PS5 remake, The Last of Us part 1, but also the announcement of a titanic multiplayer game project, The Last of Us Factions.
Saved for the closing of the Kickoff live of the Summer Game Fest this Thursday, Naughty Dog almost stole the show from Activision and its Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The studio made a strong impression by announcing, not one, not two, but three new releases in the universe of its flagship The Last of Us. Announced a few hours before the start of the show, a remake of The Last of Us will soon land on PS5, soberly named The Last of Us Part One. In addition to that, the studio offered us some images from the first season of the homonymous series, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the cast. But the one that tickled our taste buds the most was the gargantuan Last of Us Factions multiplayer game project that Naughty Dog has in store for us for the next few years.
The Last of Us Part I, the long-awaited remake
Long awaited it was not really after the relatively recent release of the remaster of The Last of Us, but its trailer had the gift of sweeping away our doubts. The Last of Us Part I will be released on September 2 on Playstation 5, and will allow us to relive the excellent plot of the first part of one of the most important Playstation exclusive franchises. On the menu, we find a brand new graphics engine, new facial animations, ray-tracing and everything that the technical capabilities of the Playstation 5 can bring. A project that fits well into the remakes / remasters era that the video game industry, an era that we still hope to see pass fairly quickly.
Naughty Dog is preparing a multiplayer Last of Us Factions
Well to be honest, we didn’t have much to eat in terms of content during the presentation of Naughty Dog, but we still got a lot of promise. The studio is currently working on a multiplayer game integrated into the universe of The Last of Us. The studio called this title “its biggest project to date”, a “massive” game and offered us a single image to contemplate dreamily. We also know that this title has been in development for a while now, that it occupies the majority of the studio’s resources and that it could well arrive on PS5 and maybe PC by the end of 2023 or rather 2024. We are recovering the image because anyway.
The Last of Us is coming to series
To conclude this crazy evening of announcements, Naughty Dog also told us about the next series The Last of Us, which should be broadcast in 2023 on HBO and HBO max. Announced by none other than Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the original voices of Ellie and Joel who will also be in the cast of the series, this first season will transport us to the sinister and ruthless post-apocalyptic world that made the success video games. We will find this time in the roles of Ellie and Joel Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, for what could well become an excellent video game adaptation on the big screen. It is emphasized because it is rare.
