The last long file produced

Production moves to Kallhäll outside Stockholm, but the long file – which was launched in 1965 with a “mild acidity and coherent, long texture” – is not with it.

“As far as Långfilen is concerned, it is a product that unfortunately is not in demand by so many consumers anymore,” said dairy manager Jörgen Thunholm earlier in a press release.

The reason for the dairy’s closure is changing consumption patterns, where customers buy less and less milk and skimmed milk, the two products that the dairy in Sundsvall mainly produced.

Even the local Jämtland milk is going to the grave, as according to Arla it would not be economically justifiable to separate the milk. The approximately 40 dairy farmers who deliver to the dairy today will instead deliver milk to Kallhäll or to the cheese production in Östersund.

About half of the approximately 70 employees at Arla in Sundsvall will remain, in distribution and cold storage, according to the newspaper.
