It seems likely that the canceled project was the fighting game announced in February. However, this has not been publicly confirmed by the developers. Avatar, which Saber Interactive describes as a AAA RPG, remains in active development.
Avatar: The Last Airbender, Developed in Partnership with Paramount Studios, Will Be Available in Early Access
Developed by Maximum Entertainment, Avatar: The Last Airbender game was described as a competitive multiplayer fighting game set in the universe of the original cartoon series. The game, which is planned to be released in early access in 2025, has not yet been announced on which platforms it will be released. Since the company did not specify the developer of the project, it is not known how much progress was made before the cancellation decision was made.
Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired on television in 2005. The animated series is about the struggle of Avatar Aang, the last living airbender, and his friends Korra and Sokka to defeat Fire Lord Ozai to save the world and end the Hundred Years’ War against the Fire Nation. The show’s commercial success led to two additional seasons, a The Legend of Korra spin-off series, and a live-action series that premiered on Netflix last year.
In the field of video games, Avatar: The Last Airbender achieved commercial success during its original release period, with games released in 2006, 2007 and 2008. More recently, the franchise has gained some momentum with the release of the Avatar: Generations mobile game in 2022 and Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance last year.
Outside of the gaming world, Avatar Studios announced that Paramount is developing an animated movie called Aang: The Last Airbender and will be released on January 30, 2026. Netflix has renewed the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series for two more seasons.
Although this cancellation news upsets Avatar fans, hopes for the future of the series are not lost. In October, Paramount, Avatar Studios and Saber Interactive announced a AAA action RPG game set in the Avatar Legends universe. The company stated that this game will be the “biggest video game in the history of the franchise” and will put players in the role of a brand new Avatar character thousands of years in the past. We will be able to play as the popular characters of the original series, Aang, Azula, Prince Zuko and Korra, in the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 fighting game.
