The unexpected fall of the Assad regime, on December 8, 2024, forced Russia to disengage in urgency its most sensitive materials and military equipment gathered in the naval base of Tartous. The Syrian transitional government had unofficially left Moscow until the end of March to leave. If the Kremlin still tries to renegotiate its presence in its only naval base in the Mediterranean, four convoys will have been necessary for a withdrawal which has proven more complicated than expected.
