The Swedish police believe that the drug dealer and gang leader Rawa Majid, also known as the “Kurdish fox”, may have been pressured by Iran to commit crimes in Sweden while he was imprisoned.
It reports Swedish daily newspaper.
It is a “central police source with very good visibility” who says this to SvD.
– The police’s view is that it is a likely hypothesis that Rawa Majid was imprisoned in Iran and then pressured to commit the crime in Sweden, says the source to the newspaper.
It was at the end of May that Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, in an attention-grabbing statement, determined that Swedish gang criminals had been recruited by Iran. Among other things, Rawa Majid and the Foxtrot network were singled out as responsible for the attacks on the Israeli embassy in Stockholm earlier this year, something that TV4 Nyheterna has reported on.
The Rumba network, led by Ismail “Strawberry” Abdo, is also pointed out as responsible for the shooting near the Israeli embassy. It has not been able to be confirmed by Swedish police.
Rawa Majid in the hands of Iranian security services
Last autumn, Rawa Majid was reported to have been arrested in Iran, this after he had been wanted internationally by Interpol for some time. Since then, there has been speculation that he may become a pawn in a political game. Also The evening paper states that Majid must have been the victim of assassination attempts in Iran.
SvD now reports that Mossad is sharing intelligence information with Swedish authorities.
– The theory has been reinforced by information we received from Mossad that Rawa Majid is supposed to be in the hands of the Iranian security services, says the police source.
At the end of May, the government called a press conference together with Säpo, where they confirmed Mossad’s information and said they saw a connection between individuals in criminal networks and in the Iranian security service.
A special operation has been launched
There are a total of five events during the spring that the Swedish police suspect are connected to the Foxtrot network and Rawa Majid. In connection with this, “operation Vårflod” was launched, according to the police source that SvD has spoken to.
“It is true that there is an investigation underway in the Stockholm region that matches your description and that goes by the working name Vårflod. As it is an ongoing investigation, we will not comment on the investigation further,” the police wrote to the newspaper.
