The Knives Out director’s crime series received incredible reviews and finally has a German launch

We can also watch The Last of Us, You and The Mandalorian in Germany right after their US broadcast. WOW, thanks to Netflix and Disney+. But even in this world of countless streaming services, there are times when we have to wait months for an acclaimed US series. One such case is Poker Face.

Rian Johnson’s Poker Face is coming to WOW in a month

The mystery dramedy series was developed by Rian Johnson for the streaming service Peacock and has been running there since the end of January. Following his two acclaimed Whodunnit films, Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Johnson is rekindling his passion for the crime genre. From Monday 24 April 2023 WOW * or Sky publishes a double episode of the series every week, according to a press release. The episodes will be available in German, English and in English with German or English subtitles.

What is Poker Face about? Not even the best poker face can fool Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne of Orange Is the New Black fame). Because she has the special gift of immediately recognizing when a person is lying. This skill helps her solve crimes. Charlie drives across the country in her Plymouth Barracuda, encountering a wide variety of people and tricky criminal cases. Poker Face does not tell a continuous storyline, but a new adventure in each episode.

99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes: Poker Face is praised to the skies

All 10 episodes (running time: approx. 60 minutes) have already aired in the USA. And hardly a series of this year is more popular with the critics. On the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Poker Face has an almost flawless value of 99 percent positive ratings. The audience average is 80 percent. With this, Poker Face also surpasses the acclaimed horror series The Last of Us.

In the reviews, the crime thriller is compared to genre greats such as the crime thriller classic Columbo. Variety writes: “Certainly one of the strongest series to debut on Peacock. This drama feels like the best strain of old-fashioned, cozy TV. The elegant selection of mystery stories gives a well-known star time to solve a new kind of case […]”

Lead actor Natasha Lyonne in particular gets praise, here from The Playlist : “She’s funny, engaging, charismatic and perfect for the role because she finds a great mix of wit and eccentricity.”
