A policeman is seriously injured and a man in his 60s is on probable cause arrested on suspicion of, among other things, attempted murder after the brutal knife attack outside the police station in Norrköping on Monday afternoon.
A video from the scene shows how a man armed with a knife cuts down a policeman, after which more people join in and try to neutralize the knifeman. After tumultuous scenes, another policeman finally succeeds in shooting the man, who is injured in the lower body and taken to hospital for treatment.
The suspect is said to be known to the police from before and despite the injury, initial interrogations have been held with the man.
“Too early to have a theory”
The motive is still unknown, but the order from the commanding officer is clear – the increased surveillance outside the police station applies until further notice.
– As for the motive, it is too early to have any theory about it. The security police are always informed of this type of incident, but there is nothing to indicate that it would be a planned act of terrorism, says chief prosecutor Torsten Angervåg.
The police are investigating the incident as attempted murder and attempted public destruction.
