“We are very saddened by the news of John Gosling’s passing. Our condolences go out to John’s wife and family,” the band wrote.
“He was a friend and important contributor to Kink’s music during his time with us,” writes the band’s guitarist Dave Davies in a comment.
Brothers Ray and Dave Davies formed The Kinks in the 1960s. Gosling joined the band in 1970 and remained there until 1978.
The Kinks are considered one of the most influential rock bands in British history. “You really got me”, “Waterloo sunset” and “Lola” are some of the many classics. The group split up in the mid-1990s after releasing a total of 24 studio albums.
