After recent days’ strong reactions to King Carl XVI Gustaf’s statement about the succession to the throne in an SVT interview, the court responded on Wednesday, via Reich Marshal Fredrik Wersäll, that the king has the highest confidence in the crown princess as future head of state.
On Thursday, the king followed up the answer with a statement via the royal house’s social media channels.
In the message, he writes that “it has pained me deeply when, in retrospect, I have read comments that claim that I do not stand behind my daughter”.
Furthermore, the king announces that “the female succession to the throne is for me a matter of course” and that he is proud of Crown Princess Victoria and “her tireless work for Sweden”.
