King Carl Gustaf turns 78 and will be celebrated on Tuesday at the palace in central Stockholm.
The army band plays and a 21-shot salute is fired from Skeppsholmen in honor of the king.
In the castle courtyard, the king receives tributes and flowers from children during the day. On the balcony above the castle vault, several members of the royal family stand to greet those gathered to celebrate the king’s birthday.
During the afternoon and evening, a private celebration for the king is also expected, according to the court.
