Sweden won against Germany and thus clinched the important second place in the group. Now a real dream opposition awaits in the quarter-finals.
– It’s nice, says Daniel Ljungman.
The junior crowns have had a good tournament so far, winning three of their four group stage matches. It was only against the USA that Sweden had to see themselves defeated after a snowy 2-3.
Heavy start
In the last group stage match of the night, Sweden was whipped to win against Germany to take second place and thus an easier opponent in the quarter-finals. But the Junior crowns went on a cold shower straight away and Germany took the lead after just four minutes.
But Sweden came back straight away and equalized at 1–1. Then the Junior Crowns stepped on the gas and were in the lead by three goals to one after the first period.
The second period ended goalless, while both teams scored a puck each in the last and the final numbers were written at 4–2.
Dream resistance awaits in the quarter
– It was stable. We were a bit careless at the start and they scored the first goal. But after our first power play goal, we have control, says Daniel Ljungman to TT.
With the win, Sweden avoided having Finland in the quarter-finals. Now Latvia is waiting instead – which can be seen as a much simpler resistance.
– We are well prepared for that, so it’s just a matter of recovering the body and coming as well prepared as we can for that match, says team captain Emil Andrae to SVT Sport.
