The overwhelming winner of the women’s pole vault in the EC team competition in athletics Wilma Murron the race was on the verge of ending already at a height of 450.
According to the rules of the team competition, you can drop the bar only three times in the entire competition, where the fourth drop means the end of the competition.
In a normal competition, the race ends when the bar is dropped three times from the same height.
Murto fell once from the height 425 and twice from the height 450. The next height 460 had to be crossed with the first one. Its reigning European champion did and repeated the trick from heights of 465 and 471.
The break finally hit the remaining Swiss at a height of 460 by Angeliva Moser and the Czech Republic Amalie Svabikova clearly.
According to Murro, the four drop rule has been a controversial topic over the years.
– The jumpers are not very happy with this rule. In other sports, the strange rules have been abandoned, but in parallel bars they are still adhered to. Perhaps the wish of the athletes and myself is that one day it would be abandoned and a normal race could be skipped. But today didn’t go well for me.
The breaking race started off sticky. According to him, it was due to a shorter than normal pace. Murto jumped at a speed of 12 steps instead of the usual 16 steps.
– When applying for it, there were a few drops in the beginning. Towards the end, it started to go quite well and I feel that the bar around 470 is starting to be at the limits of what speed you can jump at. Then next week at full speed, and we’ll see what happens, Murto anticipates the Diamond League competition in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday.
