The judges’ unexpected response after Peter Forsberg’s giant rage – now responding to the criticism: “Absolutely so…”

Peter Forsberg raged against the referees’ decision in the fifth final match between Modo and Djurgården.
Now the white-striped ones answer – and give the icon their consent.

There was serious hockey fever in Örnsköldsvik earlier this week when Modo had the chance to become an SHL team again. The stands were teeming with icons, not least in the form of Peter Forsberg. And he was not happy afterwards, and especially about a specific situation.

Foppa’s anger

At the beginning of the third period, when Modo was chasing goals to get closer to Djurgården in the match, forward Oscar Pettersson received a crosscheck in the face. The referees chose to give Edvin Hammarlund a two-minute suspension, even though a small conference was held on the ice about what all the referees saw and thought. It was not liked by the audience, or by Foppa, who was filmed in the stands and was visibly annoyed.

Edvin Hammarlund was also not reported for the move, which means he can play in Friday’s sixth final match. It has led to strong reactions in Modo, and Peter Forsberg himself reacted with great fury.

– It’s a shame if it’s not reported. Then they have to give up. Why don’t they take a five and review the cross-checking? Should be three games in any case, Forsberg told Aftonbladet.

The judges’ answers

The main referee in the match was Kristoffer Folkstrand, and now, after Peter Forsberg’s great criticism, he chooses to lie flat – and gives Foppa the go-ahead.

– Absolutely, now in retrospect, when we’ve seen it, it should be a five-minute cross-checking instead, he says.

Edvin Hammarlund himself was set on getting a five, and was surprised when the judges instead chose to send him off for two minutes.

– It’s a club that hits the mouth. In the pictures it looks like a crosschecking hitting the face. It has been a five before. I thought now it will be five minutes in boxplay, hell. But it didn’t happen.
