The judge took a selfie from the courtroom in the Stockholm District Court

Ahead of a trial in Stockholm last week, a juror published a selfie from the courtroom.
The caption read “Now we’re going to put the mischief there” – and contained a thumbs up emoji, reports
Today’s Law.
Now the negotiation must be repeated.

At the end of last week, a main hearing was held in a case of violent resistance at the Stockholm district court. Before the hearing, one of the three jurors took a selfie and published the picture on Facebook from the courtroom with the caption “Nu ska vi satt dit setet”, reports Dagens Juridik.

The caption also reportedly contained a thumbs up emoji.

The newspaper has taken note of a decision that the district court made after the incident was brought to attention. The District Court notes that the juror’s post “gives the impression that to some extent, even before the criminal trial began, she has taken a position on the question of guilt in the current case”.

Must be redone

In the decision, it is stated that there is a deadlock, and that the negotiation must be repeated.

Dagens Juridik has spoken to the accused’s lawyer, Mark Safaryan, who is critical.

– I just received information from the Stockholm District Court that the hearing will be resumed in mid-September. It is obvious that the jury system in its current form does not work, he tells the newspaper.

He also questions the training of jurors and whether political parties should appoint jurors.
