the judge rejects the exceptions raised by the defense

At the trial of the Martinez Zogo case, named after the host of the editor-in-chief of the Amplitude FM radio channel murdered in January 2023 in Yaoundé, the military court rejected this Monday all the exceptions raised by the defense during of the last hearings, before re-specifying the offenses held against the accused.

The hearing lasted less than an hour, just enough time for the military judge to reject the exceptions raised by the defense, exceptions deemed premature and unfounded by the court. The defense lawyers cited procedural flaws in particular, such as searches without a warrant at odd hours and the absence of reports for these searches.

The court relied on what it describes as “ simple hardware errors », following omissions observed in the referral order of last October, to specify the offenses charged against the accused.

For the accused Justin Danwe, boss of the commando suspected of having kidnapped and tortured the host Martinez Zogo, the facts retained are as follows: complicity in co-action of arrest and sequestration, complicity in co-action of torture, complicity in co-action of assassination and violation of instructions. Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga, boss of the private group Anecdote, owner of Vision 4 television, and Léopold Maxime Eko Eko, former director of the Directorate of External Research (DGRE) are accused of offenses of complicity in co-action of torture.

The parties have 48 hours from the day following the delivery of this judgment to appeal. The case was adjourned until December 2, 2024.
