The Jewish congregation on anti Semitism in Swedish football

News24 has previously written about the soccer star Pontus Jansson who is currently being investigated by Malmö FF, because he appears in a preliminary investigation into a violent riot, which occurred at a match at the end of last year.

In the preliminary investigation, images from a chat group with supporters and Pontus have been used, and indicate that the storming that took place on the field was already planned in advance.

However, Pontus Jansson is not suspected of any crime.

But now the images also reveal that there was anti-Semitism in the chat. There is coarse jargon among the messages and one of the defendants has written: “Pony, hail victory and fuck Jew”, to which Pontus Jansson responded with laughing emojis.

In the chat, the men also discuss that they want to detonate bombs outside the hotel where Elfsborg’s supporters would be staying. One of the defendants has also written: “HEALLL VICTORY!!!!!!!!!”.

However, the chat that appears in the preliminary investigation may be incomplete.

In a comment to Sportbladet says the prosecutor Henrik Nordquist that he also took part in the information.

– I have also taken note of the information that there have been missing messages in what is in the preliminary investigation.

Pontus Jansson: “There was never any evil intent”

Through Malmö FF’s television channel, Pontus Jansson has distanced himself from his own actions.

– There has never been any ill intent either from me or for the sake of the group. People are rumored to be involved in this passion for Malmö. The jargon in it is stuff that I absolutely distance myself from and cannot stand behind. I do it from the bottom of my heart and there were only good intentions, he said.

Nyheter24 has also spoken to John Bratel, vice chairman of the Jewish congregation in Gothenburg.

Bratel has seen Pontus’ statement on Malmö FF’s TV channel and does not believe the apology. However, he finds it difficult to see whether the intentions could be good when it comes to racism.

– I have no reason to distrust Pontus Jansson’s apology. But it is of course unacceptable to “like” and participate in forums where this kind of gross anti-Semitic hatred occurs. It is also difficult to see how there can be “good intentions” in this type of racism, says John Bratel to Nyheter24 and continues:

– What happened makes clear a bigger problem in Swedish football. As far as anti-Semitism is concerned, the problems are probably greater in Malmö than in other clubs. However, within the group “high-risk supporters” there is generally a widespread hate culture with both racist and grossly anti-Semitic elements. One must therefore demand that the clubs distance themselves from these groups to a much greater extent and actively work to counteract this type of opinion.
