Italian star Gianmarco Tamberi the Olympics are turning into a real drama of suffering. Known as a color spot in athletics, the European Championship gold medalist in Rome has recently published wild updates on his social media accounts about his situation.
It all started on Sunday, when Tamberi posted a picture of a hospital bed. He said that he suffered from kidney stones and a fever of almost 39 degrees, and because of that he postponed his flight to Paris.
On Wednesday, however, he managed to qualify for the high jump, but with a modest score of 224 for himself.
– I’m not in the shape I’d like to be, but three days ago I was scared, Can I usually compete. I was worried if I would pass the qualification. Three days ago I felt the worst pain of my life, Tamberi told Urheilu after the race.

The men’s high jump final is scheduled today, Saturday, from 20:00, but Tamber’s participation is uncertain. Already in the morning, he said in his Instagram update that the pains from Sunday had returned.
– Everything is over, Tamberi began his dramatic update.
– I woke up at five in the morning with the same pain as a few days ago. Five hours have passed and the pain is not getting any better. I am speechless, so sorry. Will I still be able to compete? Yes, but I really don’t know how I can jump in these conditions.
In the afternoon, the situation became even more dramatic when he posted a picture of an ambulance.
– 10 hours have passed, and the kidney problems still haven’t eased. The pain is intense, but it doesn’t compare to what I feel inside, Tamberi began.
He says that he vomited blood twice and had to be taken to the emergency room by ambulance. According to Tamber, his condition is being monitored, and more samples are to be taken from him.
Tamberi’s Olympic journey has been colorful. He carried the Italian flag at the opening, and managed to drop his wedding ring into the Seine river.
– If I had to lose that ring, this is the best place for it. It will remain forever in the river bend of the city of love, Tamberi commented.
