The Italian skier was unimaginably far behind in the Tour de Ski race – a confusing mistake made even his teammates tear up

The Italian skier was unimaginably far behind in the Tour

Swedish skier William Poromaa thinks it is impressive that Mikael Abram continues in the Tour de Ski, even though he is 13 minutes behind the leader. In Tuesday’s race, he lost to the winner by more than ten minutes.

Johannes Hösflot Kläbo won the third stage of the cross-country Tour de Ski, the 10 km intermediate start skied on Tuesday.

It took Kläbo 21 minutes and 38.5 seconds on the way. Iivo Niskanen and Sweden Leo Johansson interrupted. The Italian was the slowest of those who skied to the finish line Mikael Abram.

Abram’s ranking was 77th and the final time was 32:06.6. He was more than ten minutes behind Kläbo, exactly 10:28.1.

Slovenia skied to 76th place Miha Simenc lost to the winner 3.08.7.

So what the heck?

Abram told a Swedish newspaper According to Expressen (you switch to another service)that he skied an extra 3.3 kilometer run.

– It was one hundred percent my own fault. There was nothing special that happened. I thought you had to ski four laps, not three. I don’t know why I thought that.

Swedish star William Poromaa burst into laughter, according to Expressen, when he heard about the incident.

– I have heard of cases where a skier goes on the wrong route, but turns back. I’ve never heard of someone skiing a whole extra lap.

Another Italian skier, Federico Pellegrinotold Expressen that there was enough fun in the Italian national team from Abram’s mistake until late in the evening.

– But then we had to stop joking. You can imagine he (Abram) was not very happy. His race before the accident was not bad.

Pellegrino, who has skied a great Tour de Ski so far, joked that he too has fallen into similar mistakes, but only when he was 8-10 years old.

However, Pellegrino pointed out that similar mistakes can very well happen, because during a tough race “the oxygen in the skiers’ brains is low”. According to the Italian star, in Wednesday’s 20-kilometer race, the coaches made sure that every skier knew which lap to go.

The Tour de Ski continues on Friday with sprints in Val di Fiemme. Kläbo leads the overall men’s race 12 seconds ahead of Pellegrino and 14 seconds ahead Pål Golbergia.

Abram is last, 13 minutes from the lead, but still in the Tour. In the 20-kilometer pursuit skied on Wednesday, he finished more than ten minutes behind the leader again.

Abram confirmed that he plans to continue the Tour de Ski to Val di Fiemme as well. Swedish skier Poromaa described Abram’s resilience as “impressive”.

The Tour de Ski continues on Friday with traditional sprints. Live broadcast on TV2, Areena and the app at 1:20 p.m.
