The Swedish Transport Administration has drawn up three different proposals for station locations with associated railway corridors through Hudiksvall. An eastern alternative at the existing station. A western alternative at Bergsjövägen, as well as a central alternative in the Glysis area.
The question is which of these alternatives should the municipality recommend to the Swedish Transport Administration.
Rydstedt (M): “Don’t want to build in town”
The Moderates, the Sweden Democrats and the Christian Democrats advocate the western station location at Bergsjövägen between Lidl and Coop.
– We do not want to build the railway in the city as barriers, but we believe that the city will grow in a western direction and then the west will be central in the future, says Adam Rydstedt (M), member of the municipal council.
Bromhed (MP): “Should be easy”
The Social Democrats, the Green Party and the Left Party prefer a central station location, either the middle alternative at the Glysis area or the eastern alternative at the existing railway station.
– It should be easy and convenient to commute, but we do not want cultural and historical values to be lost and therefore we see the middle alternative as the better one, says Andréa Bromhed, group leader for the Green Party.
The center wants to see a tunnel
The eastern alternative at the current station would, according to the Swedish Transport Administration’s proposal, involve the demolition of the city hotel and other buildings between Hamngatan and Kålhagsgatan.
The Center Party advocates the eastern alternative at the existing railway station, but with an underground tunnel to avoid having to demolish historic buildings such as the city hotel and parts of Fiskarstan.
– We don’t want it like in Söderhamn, but like in Varberg, with a tunnel under central parts of the city, says opposition councilor Caroline Schmidt (C).
Construction will begin in ten years
The Swedish Transport Administration will take the municipality’s views into account in the choice of station location. Therefore, the distribution of mandates in the municipal board is indicative. The final decision is expected to be made in the spring. But construction itself is expected to begin in ten years at the earliest.
