Greta Thunberg posted a picture on social media where she took a stand for Palestine and Gaza. It is something that angers the Israeli military.
– Anyone who in any way identifies with Greta in the future is, in my opinion, a terrorist, says Arye Sharuz Shalicar, spokesperson for the Israeli army, in an interview with Politico.
“The world needs to take a stand and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians,” read the first of a series of posts on X in which the climate activist aired his opinion on the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Together with three other women, they held up signs with messages such as “Free Palestine” and “Stand with Gaza”.
The stance has caused the Israeli military to react with anger. In an interview with Politicoa spokesperson for the Israeli army says that Thunberg’s posts are very problematic.
– The fact that Greta is now taking a stand for Gaza while saying nothing about the massacres of Israelis shows that she is not on the side of the Palestinians. She sweeps the terror of Palestine, Hamas and Islamic Jihad under the carpet as if it didn’t exist, says Arye Sharuz Shalicar, spokesperson for the IDF.
Apologized
Arye Sharuz Shalicar later apologized for his comments about Thunberg’s supporters.
– I spoke from a deep sense of pain and my words do not reflect my personal views or those of the IDF.
The 20-year-old climate activist has also received criticism for an octopus stuffed animal that appeared on one of her posts. Octopuses have symbolized Jews in some anti-Semitic circles. Greta Thunberg has now deleted that picture and apologized, claiming that she did not know about that connection.
“It has come to my attention that the stuffed animal shown in my previous post could be interpreted as a symbol of anti-Semitism, which I was completely unaware of. The toy pictured is a tool often used by autistic people as a way to communicate feelings.“, writes Greta Thunberg on X.
