At the ROK board meeting last week, the sports organizations of the four Ukrainian regions of Uhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya were elected as ROK members.
Now the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is punishing them.
Does not need to affect the Paris Olympics
At a board meeting they decided to suspend the ROK from the IOC. This means that the ROK may no longer receive any contributions from the “Olympic Movement”.
However, it does not have to have any direct consequences in the Paris Olympics that summer. The IOC announces that their previous positions on the matter still apply.
“The IOC has the right to decide on the participation of individual neutral athletes with Russian passports in the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina at an appropriate time,” a press release states.
