The investigation against former SKR chairman Anders Knape on suspected purchase of sexual services is closed, reports NWT.

The suspicions against him became known in early June. He then chose to resign at his own request as chairman of the interest organization Swedish Municipalities and Regions (SKR).

Knape, who denies the crime, also left the assignment as chairman of the municipal council (M) in Karlstad.

The head of the preliminary investigation confirms that the investigation against Anders Knape will be closed.

– I have not made the formal decision yet, but it will be canceled. That is what I can say at the moment, says prosecutor Per Svensson to NWT.

Håkan Axelsson, chairman of the Moderates in Värmland, has talked to Anders Knape but not about his political future.

– No, I have not had reason to do so. As it is now, he has resigned from the chairmanship of the council and SKR. Our recommendation when things like this happen is to take a political timeout and he has done so. Now he can return to politics. Then if he wants to do it, it remains to be seen, I think you have to take one thing at a time, says Håkan Axelsson to NWT, who could not reach Anders Knape.
