The first trailer for the Minecraft film was released a few days ago. Now the creator of the game has spoken out and revealed what he thinks of it.
What movie is it about? Video game adaptations have been with us for many years, and recent examples like the Super Mario film show that they can also do really well at the box office. The plumber film in question grossed an impressive $1.3 billion worldwide (via boxofficemojo.com).
So it was only a matter of time before Minecraft got its own film. A few days ago, a first trailer for the upcoming film was released. It features Jason Momoa and Jack Black. The latter even plays the iconic hero Steve from the games.
The trailer was not well received by fans and was torn apart. The first look at the film disappointed the players’ expectations. But now someone has come forward who should know: Markus Persson, also known as Notch, the creator of Minecraft.
Surprisingly entertaining
What does Notch say? Anyone who expected the game’s creator to criticize the trailer as many fans are currently doing will be disappointed. Because Notch seems to be quite impressed:
“Okay, I’m in,” he writes on x.com, adding that it’s a strange feeling and quite surreal to see his game in this form.
For a movie about a game with literally zero plot, it looks surprisingly entertaining. I laughed… I think twice. Yes, the sheep got me.
He is also happy about the casting of Jack Black as Steve and calls it “very cool”. The developer was not opposed to a film adaptation from the beginning. He says of himself that he loves the spectacle and is curious to see the film adaptation.
He has his own relationship with the game – one that is different from that of most players. It is not important to him to see the game implemented as faithfully as possible. It is much more important to get to know new and strange approaches to his own ideas.
For this reason, he would have been happy with a director as controversial as Uwe Boll – the film would certainly have turned out differently. Notch himself is not without controversy either – you can read his story on MeinMMO.
Is Notch involved in the film? As the developer himself writes, he is not part of the project. Rather, for him it would be a nostalgia trip of the surreal kind. Overall, he had “expected much worse” and is now impressed by the film adaptation of his work. A fan has done many disappointed players a favor and published his own version of the controversial trailer.
