In recent times, fraudulent calls and hoax text messages have become an increasingly common feature of Swedes’ everyday life. According to statistics from crime-preventing counsel (Brå) 195,929 fraud crimes were reported in Sweden in 2022. During the same period, only four percent of the reported crimes were solved.

And the attempts to scam people out of money don’t seem to be slowing down. Now the insurance company Länsförsäkringar has issued warnings after fraudsters started sending scam text messages to their customers.

On your website they have added a red-marked information text that warns and gives tips on how you as a customer can avoid being exposed to a fraud.

“Important message! Warning for scam SMS. Do not call unfamiliar phone numbers listed and do not click on links in text messages,” they write, followed by a link to tips on how to avoid fraud.

Local offices have also issued warnings on Facebook, such as Länsförsäkringar Östgöta in Linköping.

“Warning! Bluff sms from LFBANK! Right now, hoax text messages are being sent out with the aim of deceiving Länsförsäkringar’s customers. Please spread and share. The SMS says that a card purchase has taken place at eToro and that the customer must call a phone number for “Länsförsäkringar’s blocking service”. Customers are then redirected to a fake LF website. There, the customer is asked to log in to block the card purchase. In fact, they are tricked into giving login details to the fraudsters. If you receive a hoax text message, forward it to 7726. The hoax text message looks like this:”
