A study conducted in England came to a conclusion that would upset those with a cleaning disease. According to the results of the research, it turns out that cars can be dirtier than an average toilet.
A new university study commissioned by Scrap Car Comparison has published results that are particularly upsetting for those who are in love with their cars.
The study, led by researchers at Aston University’s School of Biological Sciences, took samples from automobile interiors with different ownership histories to determine levels of bacterial contamination in vehicle interiors.
EVEN FOOT IS OUT!
It turned out that the trunk and driver’s seat housed the stool. Every car examined for the study contained fecal bacteria such as E.coli, with the highest levels found in the car trunk and driver’s seat. The gearshift lever, instrument cluster, and rear seat also saw higher levels of bacterial contamination than those found in the average home toilet or even a toilet seat.
THE DIRTEST PLACES OF CARS
- Dashboard – 1,425 bacteria detected
- Driver’s seat – 649 bacteria detected
- Gear lever – 407 bacteria detected
- Backseat – 323 bacteria detected
- Clipboard – 317 bacteria detected
- Steering – 146 bacteria detected
The steering wheel was found to be the cleanest area of the car, possibly due to the increase in hand sanitizer use due to the pandemic. It turns out that older cars have a higher bacterial load than those that have been on the road for a shorter period of time.
