Influencer Paulina Danielsson went to Turkey to undergo cosmetic surgery on her abdomen. Now she wants to advise others. But plastic surgeon Johan Thorfinn believes that one should not be afraid of undergoing abdominal operations – if they are performed in Sweden and are medically justified. The debate surrounding cosmetic procedures has been intense recently. Not least, criticism has been directed at the industry built up in Turkey, which has become an increasingly common tourist destination for so-called beauty trips. Influencer Paulina Danielsson is one of the beauty tourists who liberally shares her various procedures on social media. And recently, the influencer revealed that she had plastic surgery on her abdomen. – When I went to Turkey, I chose to remove my inner labia and put a fat transplant on my outer ones to get a so-called “Barbie pussy”, says Paulina Danielsson. “The worst pain I have experienced in my life” She says that the idea came when a close friend told her that she would do the operation herself. Paulina says that she has long thought about operating on her abdomen as she compared herself to others and watched porn, where cosmetically corrected abdomens are often made visible. But now the influencer wants to discourage others from undergoing the operation. – I hadn’t redone my abdominal surgery because it hurt so damn much, it’s the worst pain I’ve experienced in my entire life. It looked like something from monsters inc down there so I was scared too. Now everything looks good so I’m happy about that, but it was something I could have actually skipped doing. The risks of beauty tourism And there are several risks with cosmetic surgery abroad. Firstly, there is the risk of being exposed to multi-resistant bacteria that are difficult to treat. In addition, it can be difficult to get help in Sweden as a beauty tourist if complications arise, says Johan Thorfinn, who is a senior physician and docent in plastic surgery. – I have met patients who were completely in despair when they came back from an operation abroad, who find it difficult to get help both in public care and in private clinics – which also cost a lot of money. In Sweden, cosmetic procedures of this type are prohibited. An operation of the abdomen is only granted if a patient experiences chafing or discomfort that limits everyday life. And Thorfinn also wants to emphasize that you should not be afraid to seek help if you experience discomfort with chafing or pain in the abdomen. – You have to distinguish between operations for cosmetic reasons and medical reasons. It is important that you address this, that it exists as a possibility. It’s easy for there to be a lot of focus on cosmetics, but this is about quality of life and function.
