The infection prevention doctor about bathhouse feet: “No serious illness”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

A suspected case of the disease bathhouse feet has been discovered in Dalarna, but what kind of ailment is this really? In the clip, infectious disease doctor Fredrik Rücker clears up the question marks.

Bathhouse feet are a relatively new acquaintance both for bathers and doctors. The disease is caused by a bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and got its name after an outbreak around 20 years ago in Uppsala, where about 20 children got similar symptoms after visiting the same bathhouse.

How serious is it that a case has been discovered in a bathhouse?

– It is not a serious disease, but it is good that it is detected so that the problem can be fixed, perhaps cleaning a little more carefully, so that there are no more cases, says infectious disease doctor Fredrik Rücker.
