Action with Gerard Butler is based on the war experiences of a real agent
Tom Harris (Butler), a CIA agent in Iran, has just sabotaged a reactor and is supposed to do a small job in Afghanistan on the way back. Then a whistleblower publishes his identity and Harris has to overcome countless enemies on his way to the rescue airport in Kandahar.
The Kandahar Script was written by ex-secret service officer Mitchell LaFortune, who based the story on his experiences in Afghanistan at the time of the Edward Snowden revelations.
