The food company Coop is now building a warehouse outside Eskilstuna where solar cells cover the entire roof. It is 38,000 square meters, the size of five football fields.
The number of solar cell installations is steadily increasing. From around 8,000 in 2016 to over 100,000 in 2022.
The food giant’s new warehouse will be one of the largest solar cell facilities in Sweden and will supply a third of the energy needs for the property. The goods terminal will function as a warehouse and supply Coop’s 800 stores with food.
Unlike in the case of wind power, there are few complaints from the public about solar installations.
– It doesn’t bother anyone and now we can use the roof to save energy, says Coop’s logistics manager Örjan Grandin.
