the incidence rate in the elderly on the rise

Covid the executive wants to protect without isolating in nursing

The incidence rate is rising among the elderly, relatively spared until then by this fifth wave of Covid-19. This is an observation made by Public Health France in its latest epidemic monitoring report. Caution is therefore called for, especially in retirement homes and nursing homes.

At the end of 2021, the incidence rate of Covid-19 was stagnating, but it is now increasing sharply since the beginning of the year. So the number of infections among the elderly is increasing exponentially. This is the term used by Public Health France in its latest epidemiological bulletin. For the moment, this increase in the number of cases is not reflected in the same proportions in the number of deaths. They are increasing, but not as fast.

What is most worrying is that this epidemic progression is particularly observed in nursing homes and other places of reception for the elderly. Places where increased vigilance should then be observed, notes the health authority. Between barrier gestures and physical distancing, the recipe is known and we must continue to apply it.

The other effort to be made concerns the vaccination and the third dose. Nine out of 10 people over the age of 65 were able to benefit from it and that’s a very good figure, but if we look in detail only 7 out of 10 people over the age of 80 have received this reminder. A figure lower than the national average of all ages, while these people are precisely the most at risk from Covid-19.
