The illustrator of The Pharmacist’s Diaries has to pay a fine

The pharmacist’s diaries are on everyone’s lips right now. But the manga’s artist has just been prosecuted because she missed something important.

What happened to the illustrator? Nekokurage, whose real name is Erika Ikeda, is responsible for the drawings for The Apothecary’s Diaries. The Fukuoka Region Tax Authority announced on April 1 that the artist was charged with violating the income tax law on February 29.

  • Ikeda is said to have failed to declare assets of around 1.58 million euros in income.
  • Of the 1.58 million euros, around 290,000 euros were taxable. The undeclared income was earned between 2019 and 2021.
  • As The Japan News reports, the evaded money is said to have been used, among other things, to purchase real estate.

    Why didn’t she declare her income? According to NHK, Ikeda simply failed to file tax returns. She was aware that she would have had to file a tax return. But she was so busy with the manga that she didn’t have time to talk to the tax advisor.

    What kind of punishment did she receive? After receiving instructions from the tax office, she paid the taxes and penalties. She has also hired a tax advisor to help her file taxes on time. She has not communicated any further consequences to the public.
