The icons Lidström and Alfredsson lace up their skates again – the fans love the unexpected comeback

They are two of our greatest hockey players ever.
Now, long after retirement, Nicklas Lidström and Daniel Alfredsson are lacing up their skates again.
And the fans absolutely love it.

They are two of the Swedes who have been inducted into the long-standing Hockey Hall of Fame. For many years, both Nicklas Lidström and Daniel Alfredsson belonged to the absolute world elite in the NHL, and to this day both are classed as real legends in the league.

Back on the ice

Nicklas Lidström is often ranked as the second best back of all time, only beaten by Bobby Orr. Daniel Alfredsson was the loyal team captain in Ottawa above all, who always gave his all to the team, and who had a sense of purpose like few others.

It has been several years since the legends chose to put their skates on the shelf, but now the iconic Swedish duo is making an unexpected comeback. The Czech legend Marian Hossa was forced to end his career in 2017 when it was discovered that he was allergic – to his own equipment. The news came suddenly, and Hossa never got a real chance to say goodbye to the sport he always loved, and all the teammates he played with.

The fans’ wonderful response

But on August 18, in the Czech Republic, it’s time for Hossa’s farewell game – and there aren’t exactly a few hockey icons who will gather and play. And now it is also clear that at least three Swedes will participate – in the form of Lidas, Alfie and also Niklas Hjalmarsson.

And when the North American fans found out about this, it was immediately one name that made everyone react – namely Nicklas Lidström.

“53-year-old Nicklas Lidström is probably still a top-four defenseman in the NHL,” writes one user.

“I hope you’re joking? He would have been a Norris Trophy finalist without a doubt,” replies another.

So fantastically nice of our Swedish icons to stand up and say goodbye to a beloved teammate!

Marián Hossa is having a “Goodbye Game” to be the last game he plays.
It’ll be August 18 in Trenčín.
